Impact Cinema was founded in Ottawa in 2021 with a straightforward conviction: film is one of the most powerful and least formally understood art forms of the past century, and most people who care about it have never had access to the frameworks that would help them engage with it more fully.
We are not a review platform. We do not rank films by popularity or chase algorithmic trends. We are interested in the questions that films raise and the tools that help audiences engage with those questions — about visual composition, narrative structure, cultural representation, historical context, and the ethics of the gaze.
Our editorial team works across film history, theory, and contemporary criticism. Our quiz content is developed by people who teach and write about cinema professionally, reviewed for accuracy before publication. Our articles are written to be accessible without being reductive.
All quiz questions and factual claims are verified against primary sources before publication. Corrections are issued transparently when errors are identified.
Our editorial judgements are not influenced by commercial partnerships. We do not accept sponsored content or paid placement within our quiz or article systems.
We resist the pull of English-language cinema and actively include world cinema — African, Asian, Latin American, and Eastern European — in all curated content.
We design for curiosity rather than expertise. Our content assumes intelligence and no prior knowledge — the combination that characterises good popular criticism.
